Jay Hamburger, artistic director of Theatre In the Raw Society...A BIT ABOUT JAY HAMBURGER... Jay is a founder and has been the artistic director of Theatre In the Raw Society for the past 17 years. He has acted, directed and produced numerous shows in Canada as well as the United States.

Jay is a respected theatre instructor/mentor/director and has taught nearly all aspects of theatre, acting and directing in both countries to children, adults and seniors - he has worked extensively with First Nations artists in BC... More about Jay here >>

Acting is about letting yourself go into moments of discovery. Students must have good written & oral English skills. The emphasis will be on discovering & releasing your inner performer.

ACTING: RADIO PLAY SCRIPTS - WRITING & PERFORMANCE
The Vancouver School Board (VSB)

Learn to write a short radio script as well as the techniques of live radio broadcasting and performance. Students will use scripts they have developed in class, and then read them before the group. Jay Hamburger has been developing original radio play scripts through Theatre In the Raw for over ten years, broadcasting them through Vancouver Co-Op Radio's "Arts Rational" program. This course focuses on short and sweet scriptwriting, not only for the listening ear, but also develops the skills of live performance. Experience in acting or writing is advisable. Students must have competent written and oral English skills and must be 16 years or older.

ACTING INSTRUCTION: LEVEL 1.5
The Roundhouse Community Centre

Class is for the student that has studied with Jay before or has experience acting. It will dig deeper into nuts & bolts of theatrical theory, movement, mime, voice, diction, scene study, improvisation and monologues, character analysis and audition techniques. Students must have good written and oral English skills.

Participants will deepen their understanding and explore different meaningful approaches to theatrical roles, moving towards a disciplined grip on what it takes to get on the stage, be in a play and give powerful, entertaining performances. This is a fun and supportive way to continue growing as a dramatic artist with artistic director/ producer/ actor and coach Jay Hamburger (BFA in theatre).
